How to Address Abnormal Noises in CJY10/6GB Trolley Electric Locomotive Gearboxes?

Abnormal noises emanating from CJY10/6GB trolley electric locomotive gearboxes are a common operational issue that can significantly impact the electric locomotive's performance and safety. This article delves into the root causes of these noises and provides practical solutions to help operators and maintenance personnel quickly resolve these problems.

Root Causes of Gearbox Noise

Excessive Gear Wear or Tooth Fracture: Over time, the constant operation of a gearbox can lead to wear and tear on the gears, eventually causing them to fracture and produce noise.

Misalignment of the Gear Cover: The gear cover is designed to protect the gears. Misalignment can result in friction between the cover, gears, or axles, causing an audible grinding noise.

Loose Fastening Bolts or Gear Rubbing Against the Cover: Loose bolts or friction between the gears and the gear cover can generate abnormal sounds.

Severe Wear on the Sliding Bearings of the Traction Motor and Axles: Worn sliding bearings can adversely affect gear meshing, resulting in noise.

Insufficient or Contaminated Gearbox Oil: A lack of lubrication or the presence of contaminants in the gearbox oil can lead to poor gear lubrication and noise.

Changes in Gear Backlash or Contact Area: Excessive backlash or uneven contact between gears can cause improper meshing and noise.

Solutions to Gearbox Noise

Repair or Replace Gears: If gears are excessively worn or fractured, they should be repaired or replaced.

Adjust the Gear Cover: The position of the gear cover should be adjusted to ensure proper clearance and prevent friction with the gears or axles.

Inspect and Tighten Bolts: Regularly inspect the gearbox for loose bolts and tighten them as needed.

Replace Worn Sliding Bearings: Replace any sliding bearings that exhibit severe wear to ensure proper operation.

Replenish or Replace Gearbox Oil: Check the oil level and quality of the gearbox oil. Add oil if necessary or replace it if it is contaminated. In severe cases, the gearbox may need to be cleaned.

Adjust Gear Backlash: Adjust the gear backlash to ensure proper meshing. The recommended backlash for conical gears is 0.175-0.4mm, and for small and large conical gears, it should be less than 0.15mm and 0.1mm, respectively.

Preventive Measures

Regular Inspections: Conduct routine inspections of the gearbox and replace worn components promptly.

Lubrication Maintenance: Regularly check the oil level and quality, ensuring adequate lubrication.

Proper Operation: Adhere to operating procedures to avoid overloading or shock loading the electric locomotive.

By understanding the common causes of gearbox noise and implementing the appropriate solutions, operators and maintenance personnel can effectively address these issues and prolong the service life of their CJY10/6GB trolley electric locomotives.
